New Laws May Allow Camp Lejeune Victims to Recover Significant Compensation

Toxic Tap Water at Camp Lejeune

For over 30 years, Marines and personnel of any branch of the armed forces and their families stationed at Camp Lejeune's main base, barracks, family, temporary housing, Tarawa Terrace and Hadnot Point drank and bathed in water contaminated with toxins at concentrations from 240 to 3400 times levels permitted by safety standards.

The main chemicals involved were volatile organic compounds (VOCs) such as perchloroethylene (PCE), a dry cleaning solvent, and trichloroethylene (TCE), a degreaser; however, more than 70 chemicals have been identified as contaminants at Lejeune.

Significant Increases in Cancer

The chemicals veterans and their families were exposed to at Camp Lejeune are known to be toxic and carcinogens.

Veterans exposed to these chemicals were at a significant increased risk of developing bladder cancer, breast cancer, leukemia, suffer miscarriages, Parkinson's disease, neurological issues and other serious health issues.

Most Camp Lejeune victims have previously not had access to the kind of compensation needed to take care of their and their families' injuries.

A new 2022 law may allow victims to recover significant compensation.
